BONHEUR | diploma collection
The starting point of my diploma project’s concept is the oeuvre of Hungarian painter Viola Berki, in particular her work ‘Boldogság felé’ (en: Towards happiness). What does happiness mean to me? How can I achieve it? These are the main questions that came to my mind when analyzing Viola Berki's life and painting. As the biography of the artist demonstrates, I believe that authenticity and the sense of freedom that comes with it are essential milestones on the road leading to happiness. As self-awareness is a prerequisite for authenticity, with this collection I would like to reflect on my journey towards finding my personal and professional identity as a designer, highlighting some of the defining elements of my own life and the contrast between external expectations and my inner dilemmas. The colors, materials and flower motifs used in the collection are not only reflecting my own journey, but also referring to the life and painting of the artist. The final looks include garments made of flower patterned and lace fabrics as well as machine knitted, Jacquard patterned and crocheted pieces.
